MASONIC.

LODGE ARA, 348, IC. TilK regular monthly meeting of the Ara Lodge, held last evening, in Freemasons' Hall, was of more than ordinary interest, and there was a 'arge attendance of upwards of fifty members and visitors, the W.M. Brother S. I). Hanna, presiding. After the ordinary business, and the raising of Brother Baxter to the sublime degree of a M.M., the printed balance-sheet of the Lodge for the period ended 2-lth June, 1889, copies of which were in the hands of all the members, was taken as read. It was very satisfactory indeed, showing liabilities nil, and assets £3365 7s 3d. The receipts for the year were £28 6s 7d above the expenditure. The report was adopted without discussion. The motion in regard to the United Grand Lodge, of which the W.M. had given notice, was then moved from the chair. It was, " That the minutes of May G re formation of a United Grand Lodge for New Zealand bo rescinded." There was a very lengthy and able discussion on the question. It will be recollected that the resolution in favour of the United Grand Lodge was on the previous occasion carried on the vote of Brother Evans, who then presided in the absence in England of the W.M., Brother C. C. McMillan, the num >: bers without Brother Evans being equal. The question of the legality of this vote was raised and discussed, but finally the motion was put, and lost by a majority of 17 to 10. We may add that Brother C. 0. McMillan, the 1.P.M., was^ warmly congratulated on his re-appearance in the Lodge after hie prolonged absence in England, : ■ • ■'.-, ■... ' ■. : ■
