NEW ZEALAND FRUIT IN THE LONDON MARKET.

A London* correspondent advises tho Canterbury Press as follows : —'When in the neighbourhood of Covcnt Garden, in the early part of April last, he was present at the unpacking of fourteen cases of New Zealand apples, which had been landed ex steamer Doric. Each apple had been wrapped in paper, and throughout these cases, which were emptied in the presence of our correspondent, not only were none of the apples bad, but in no case was the paper stained. The colour, while not) quite so good as that of a previous shipment, or of some of the TasmaniE.n fruit, was still very fair, and the salesmen stated that there was no doubt at that season of the year the apples would sell very well indeed. Steamers of the Shaw Savill line have cool chambers in which these apples were shipped, and as our correspondent mentions that apples from Tasmania were landed at the same time, there appears no reason to doubt that ripe apples shipped from Canterbury in March, April, May, and June would find a ready sale at splendid prices in the London market, while, with careful packing,- there is no reason to apprehend any serious loss in transit. Wo would strongly urge upon our fruit-growers the advisableness of making an extensive trial of this market at as early a date as possible. We understand that on the lasb trip of the Doric both apples and potatoes were shipped, and that arrangements are being made to send similar consignments by the lonic and following steamers.
