Received July 20, 1.40 a.m. STORMS AND WRECKS. Sydney, July 22. Alt. the vessels driven ashore in Byron Bay during the recent storm became total wrecks, except the Agnes, which has been got off. Further casualties are reported along the coast, the schooner Jessie Matilda being wrecked at Ballina, and ketch Lady Lome at Clarence River. In the latter instance one of the crew was drowned. In the Richmond district a heavy fall of rain has been experienced, 25 inches being registered. Great damage has been done to the sugar crop. Brisbane, July 22. The barque Rosie Welt, bound from Newcastle to Singapore, coal laden, has been wrecked at New; Guinea. The crew reached the shore safely. A NEW COMET. * Sydney, July 22. A new comet has been discovered, its position being in the right ascension, 12 hours 13 minutes ; declination, 35 degrees 8 minutes south. FLOODS SUBSIDING. Sydney, July 22. The floods in the Clarence River are subsiding. RECOVERY OF STOLEN MONEY. Melbourne, July 22. Two boys hunting mice under the platform of Williamstown pier, found 4000 sovereigns, believed to be part oi the money stolen from the R.M. s. Iberia. The discovery caused quite a sensation. THE MELBOURNE MURDER. Melbourne, July 22. A man named Corbello lias been arrested for the murder of Annie Thornton, whose body was discovered in a cottage last week. He has confessed he quarrelled with and killed her. THE MAORI FOOTBALLERS. Brisbane, July 22. The Maoris bo-, Queensland in the return match by 11 points to 7. Four of the prominent members of the Maori team have been suspended from further play with the team on the grounds that a betting swindle was attempted on Saturday by endeavouring to lose the match.
