During yesterday the Government steamer Hinemoa was again engaged in lifting and straightening up the moorings of the hulk Clara Hargravea. In the evening she sailed on her cruise to the Northern lighthouses, her tirst place of call being Cuvier Island. The barque Madura, berthed at the Railway Wharf, yesterday, and began to put out her cargo of coal and boned ust. At the Customs the schooner Louie, Captain Svendsen, was cleared for the Thames, and in the afternoon she hauled out from her berth and set sail for that port. She will thero load up with 70,000 feet of timber for Lyttelton. H. M.s. Dart got up steam early yesterday and left the harbour for a trial cruise with a party of guests on board. She returned to her anchorage in the evening, and will sail for Sydney to-day. After her repairs have been officially passed by the Admiral, she will be put into commission at once, probably for a surveying on the Queensland and New«Juinea Coasts.

Karly yesterday morning the s.s. lona arrived from her weekly trip to Tauranga and Mercury Bay with passengers and freight, and she sailed for Great Barrier shortly after 8 o'clock.

The Union ,S.S. Co.'s steamer Manappuri took in a quantity of mixed freight for the South and Melbourne yesterday, and loft about noon with the usual number of passengers on board. At the Queen-street Wharf the hrigantine Nautilus is imtting out her cargo of oranges in good condition. An intimation lias been received at Portsmouth that the mobilised Huet will assemble at Spithead on July 16, and the Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Sir Edmund Commerell, is preparing a plan showing the station of each vessel. r lhe repairs of the Preserve Channel and Training Squadron will be completed early in July, and the Woolwich authorities have been urged to expedite the delivery of guns for the largo ships. It is understood that the lleet will be the most imposing that has ever assembled in English waters.

Yesterday evening the Northern S.S. Co.'a Wellington arrived from Whangarei with a good number of passengers and mixed freight. Important modifications are gradually taking place at home in shipbuilding practice. Vessels 350 feet long are now being built without keels, to adapt them for lightdraught trades : and vessels of the same size are, owjng to being built with web frames and intercostal stringers, devoid of hold beams, so permitting the more easy and rapid stowage of cargo. The use of 'A bars is also increasing, thereby saving labour and material. This section is being used in ordinary mercantile vessels, from the tank tops upwards, in place of frames and reverse frames.

The new Russian ironclad which lias been commenced at NicolaiefF will be called the Twelve Apostles. It will be 8076 tons displacement, and be protected by a belt of armour of 14 inches, and will be provided with engines developing upwards of 8500 i.h.p. Ihe Haiigut, another vessel for the Russian navy, of 6950 tons, has just been laid down at tho Admiralty works, St. Petersburg. This vessel will have only partial armour.
