He states that the transit from San Francisco to New York has been reduced to five days. The Marine Department received a telegram to-day to the effect that the Hinemoa has not been able to land stores at Portland Island, and has been obliged to take shelter under the Mania Peninsula. This will delay her arrival in Auckland a day or two. She carries material for the lighthouse in course of construction on Cuvior Island.
