PROPERTY TAX.
WAITEMATA COUNTY. Messrs. Thomas Leigh (chairman), Michael Shea, and Rev. "A. M. McCallum, the Court of Reviewers appointed under the Property Tax Act, and Rating Act for the County of Waitemata. held a sitting yesterday in the County Council offices, Palmerston Buildings, to hear and determine objections against the valuations on properties. Mr. James Mays, valuer, piodueed the assessment list, and Mr. O. Mays, ! clerk of the County Council, represented i that body. The following objections were ! l dealt with : — BoßOft.ii ok Dkvonport. —William Johnson, valued for throe properties on Beach | Road at £474. £501, and £50-1: valuation I sustained. Captain Slattery. Reach Road, two properties, valued at £510 and £430 : reduced to £450 and £340. A. Aubrey ; reduced from £450 to £375. John Savage ; reduced from £20$ to £156. Joseph L. Williams; reduced from £100 to £150, and £070 to £900. J. Jesse Swinnerton, £50;), reduced to £460. \\ .S. Wilson, J. L. Wilson, and W. C. W. McDowell, £•261;* reduced to £ISIS, as an error had been made in tne exteut of the land valued. Rev. D. Bruce objected that land for which he was assessed did not belong" to his estate, but to ii trust, and Tie further objected that the valuation of £500 was excessive. 'ine alteration in owner's name was allowed, and the valuation was reduced to £400. Sir G. M. O'Rorke objected to his being valued for property which he had sold to Professor Thomas, and it was transferred. He objected to the valuation of five other properties assessed at £1050: reduced to £930. W. Buchanan, valued at £2.-22 on four properties. The commission agreed to a reduction of £200, but Mr. Buchanan claimed a further reduction. After hearing the statements of the applicant and valuer the claim was disallowed I.akk Road District.Mr. Thomas Thompson. £15: reduced to -!-■ Mr. Thompson (representing Boyd's estate). £33, £70, £100 ; valuations sustained. Alexander Maekay, £100. The objection was that he did not own the land : that he had dis{K>sed of it to his children. It appeared. however, that about an acre an I ahalf was still left to the applicant, after having disposed of the rest, but Mr. Mac* ay insisted that he had only a quarter of as: acre left. After ascertaining, however, what the amount of lan I on the original Crown grant was. and the amounts which had been disposed or, that there was actual.'}' half an acre, the valuation was reduce 1 to £50. He also objected to the valuati on of another property oi 40 acres, £750. The valuation war sustained. Henry Keesin-g. as trustee for Dr. Fischer, valued at £250. objects! : reduced to ££>•. Xorti. cvti: Road Distrkt. — Arthur Heather. £500: reduced to £400. Janus Piatt, £300 : reduced to £250. R.-bert J as. Hon re, valued at £3«»'). There was an error 35 to the description of the property, a wrong section having been put down, and the vaimuion wa- fixed at £150.
