At the toy of the straight, Apropos fell back, and Merrie England ran into third place, but at the distance, Scots Grey was still in front. In the next fifty yards, Merrie England drew; up. to the leaders quickly, and Dunkeld joining issue at the same time, a splendid race between the three resulted, Scots Grey winning by a bare head from Merrie England, with Dunkeld three parts of a length away, third; Sultan, fourth; r and _ Golden: Crest last. Repose jumped off in front and ran in advance of Erin-go-Bragh and Red Ensign to the top of the straight, where the leader retired leaving Moss Rose in command. At the distance Rewi came up on the outside; and was in front at the rails where Chudleigh made a strong run but failed to get up, Rewi winning by half a length from Red Ensign, and Moss Rose who finished a dead heat with Chudleigh close up fourth. Adulation with Escapade second, and Ravenswing third, led to the kennels, , where Ruby went into third ; place. Adulation and Escapade side by side | led arouud to the top turn, and Vandal passed ; Ruby and went into third place. Nearing the straight lie went to the front, Wakitapu and Mon Loup following and Adulation and Escapade slackened off. An exciting finish resulted in Vandal beating Wakatinu by a neck.
