New Zealand Herald Office, Thursday evening. The Customs duties to-day amounted to £1636 3s. Messrs. Arthur and Bundle's Weekly Report.—Business has been somewhat interfered with this week by Friday being a holiday, the market day had to be held on Thursday, so there have only been two produce and fruit sales. Seven sales by auction have been held, and the whole of them have been well-attended, and a good business done. Produce of all kinds has moved off freely at late prices, and every prospect of a continuance. Good fresh and corned butter is wanted in larger quantity than to hand, also fresh eegs. Well-cured bacon and hams are in demand beyond the supply. Holders of potatoes and onions should not hold back; there is a good market at lair prices, and there is greater indication of prices being lower than higher; Southern ones are coming forward, and Sydney prices are lower. Fruit has again come to hand in large quantity, no improvement m prices ; a shipment of apples to order lias been sent to Sydney—we hope this may lead to further business. We have taken the utmost care in selecting this shipment, sending several kinds, and now anxiously await news of arrival and report from the buyer, which we will make known. Monday : There was a sale at the mart of a very large number of unredeemed pledges—gold and silver watches, jewellery, clocks, books, tools, saddles, sewing machines, clothing, boots, etc., from Mr. J. Levy, pawnbroker, London Loan Office, Victoriastreet and Newton, There was a crowded attendance throughout the sale, which continued uninterrupted for six liours, and. first-class prices were obtained. Monday : Sale of stock of English ami colonial made boots and shoes at the shop of Mr. J. Cailnan, Upper Queen-street. There was a fair attendance, brisk competition, .and all aold at very satisfactory prices. Tuesday : The sale of properties, stores, steamers, barges, etc., belonging to the Waikato Coal and Shipping Co. (Limited), sold by Older of the liquidators, drew together a large number of persons. The mills did not meet with buyers, and they are in the market at very low prices. The steamer lUngiriri was withdrawn. The Lilia was passed for higher price, also the township of iiuntiv. The steamer Delta was sold, all the barges and" punt, steam engine, all the hurtling stores, except the one at Hamilton, the 100 acres at Taupiri, and two allotments in the township of Ilangiriri. Tuesday: Sale of poultry, produce, fruit, etc, at the mart. A fair amount of business was done. Tuesday : Sale of household furniture and effects at the residence of Mrs. Hume, Carlton Road. There was a large attendance of buyers, arid good prices were realised. Wednesday : A sale of household furniture and effects at the mart. There was a good attendance, fair competition, and a large quantity of goods changed hands at satisfactory prices. Thursday: The market day sale of poultry, produce, fruit, etc., was held (on account of Good Friday). 'Ihe change of the day of sale had an injurious effect on the sale. There was a good show of poultry. Turkeys were entered in unusually large numbers for this season of the year. 124 head were entered and sold. Cock birds only brought is 3d to 6s 9d each ; hens and mixed lots" of smaller size, 2s Id to 3s 4d. Fowls and ducks sold about the same prices as last week, but the demand was limited. A good supply of produce. Fruit was entered in large quantity. Mil. ALEXANDER Aitken's Market Report for the week ending April 19, a large amount of general business done. In consequence of the usual market sale being held on Thursday, the attendance of country buyers was smaller than usual, but supplies of all kinds were large. In the poultry department every pen was tilled, prices being about the same. Turkeys were ill unusual large numbers, and values were lower. Pigs in fair supply, and no alteration in values. Potatoes are coming to hand in large quantities, the quality in many cases being poor; values slightly easier. Onions in fair supply, and values further advanced. Pumpkins are easier. Melons, no alteration. Oats are scarce and higher in price. Wheat, no alteration. Maize is easier. Honey is scarcer. .Bacon and hams, old lots, difficult to quit, but one lot of now local cure to hand sold well. Cheese is quiet. Butter, fresh, in good supply. Prime corned butter is in active demand, but little coming forward; poor quality quiet. Eggs are freely to hand, and prices are easier. In fruit there has been a large quantity receivod, but there has been little alteration in values. Good dessert anples have sold better. Pears, many kinds poor, ami tor these values wore low ; choice kinds sold fairly well. Poaches, few to hand. Lemons are easier.•» Quinces were a trifle below previous quotations. Tomatoes, no alteration. On Tuesday the shipment of Islaud fruit, ex Wainui, was sold. The bananas arrived in prime condition, and sold at very satisfactory rates. Bucklmto and Sons' Weekly Kbport.—At the llaymarket during the, jiast week fodder lias been in good demand: prices have ranged from 2s 3d to 2s !>d the cwt. ; oats, in wholesale parcels, 2s 7d to 2s £Kl : fowl wheat, as Jd maize, 3s to 3s fld the bushel ; oaten chaff, £3 liw ,the ton. At the horse sale on Friday horse stock 1 were offered in full numbers, good animals brought from £1) to £15 each, a spring cart £13, harness £5 2s Cd. At tlio hide and skin sale on Tuesday prices for ox hides ranged from 4d to 4Jd ; cow ides, 2id to aid the lb ; tallow, 12s to 17s the cw.; pelts, from lOd ; skins, Is 3d to 4s 3d each ; w°ol, s|d to OJd the lb. At the country cattle sales hold respectively at I'okeno and Drnry cattle were ill usual numbers, and met a steady demand at late values ; few dairy cows were yarded. At Renmera on Thursday dairy cattle were in request, those at calving ranged from £4 12s Cd to £7 Ills ; store cattle dull of sale; fat cattle Ann, lightweights better worth, ISs the 1001b was the ruling value. Sheep, in moderate numbers, kept their values, and fat lambs were better worth; cnlves, scarce, and sold at extreme values ; pijts, plentiful, kept their values ; wethers ranged from 9s to lSs ; ewes, 7s to 12s ; steers, £4 to £7 2s Od ; cows, £2 10s to £6 12s 6d each.
