AUCKLAND AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.
The aquatic sports under the auspices of the Auckland Amateur Swimming Club, were held on Saturday afternoon, at the Calliope' Dock. About 700 persons were present, mcludiug Admiral Fairfax and party. The sports were very successful, the events being well contested. Dr. Lewis and Major Anderson were judges, and Mr. Cooke was a very efficient starter. Selections of music were rendered by the Artillery band. The races resulted as follows :— Maiden Race, 100 yds.—P. Madigan, 1 ; A. Duthie, 2; A. Goldwater, 3. Eight others also started. There was a good race between the placed men, Madigan winning by a couple of yards. Time, B(ssec. Boys' Race, 50yds.—W. Kenny, 1; J. Graham, 2; M. C. Cossar, 3. There were nine competitors. The race was a grand one. Lono Diving.—R. M. Maaefield, 1; A. Smith, 2; F. M. Boord, 3. Seamen's Race (for men from H.M. warships) 200yds.—W. Murray, H.M.si. Orlando, 1; H. Drake, H.M.s. Orlando, 2; J. Dalbv, H.M.s. Lizard, 3. These were the only starters. Half-mile Championship.—Wilfred Von Stunner, 1; H; Bailey, 2: H. Nicholson, 3. Tho other starters were: P. Madigan, P. J. Missen, W. H. Peters, and F. J. Taylor. Bailey led at tho first turn, but approaching the second end Von Sturmer was level with him, and the latter taking the lead kept it till the finish, winning by ten yards amidst great cheering. Clothes Rack.— W. Gittos, 1. Calliope Handicap.—A. Dut.hie, ISsec, 1; A. Goldwater, 14sec, 2; L. M. Mayers, 3. Thirteen started. Duthie won with ease. Naval Officers'Rack.—F. Pierce, H.M.s. Opal, 1; H. A. Smallwood, H.M.s. Rapid, 2; J. G. Armstrong, H.M.s. Opal, 3. There were no other starters. Neat Header.— and O'Dowd tied for first place. In the dive off the judges awarded the premier position to jNicholson; O'Dowd, 2; Masefield, 3. Boys' Race (under 18).— H. Brigham, 1; W. E. Cossar, 2; J. M. Brigham, 3. Obstacle Rack.—H. Nicholson, 1; R. M. Masefield, '2; W. D. Home, 3. The course was over ft boom over a ladder, through the buoy, and then to swim the remainder of the distance. s W Citizens' Handicap.—A. Duthie, 1; ». Von Stunner, 2; D. Baird, 3. Won easily.Swimming on Back.— Brigham, 1; C. 0. Prideaux, 2; L. Myers, 3. Won easily. The Aquatic Derby and the Polo Match were postponed sine die.
