SHOOTING AFFAIR AT OAMARU.

[BY telegraph.— association.] Oamaku, Saturday. Duncan Gilchrist was to-day committed for trial for shooting at John McDonald with intent. From the evidence it appears that McDonald went to the house of accused's father and demanded the return of some photos which he said accused had taken out of his pocket the previous night. Some words followed, and McDonald says Gilchrist sen. struck him, and in return he struck Gilchrist and knocked him down. The son (accused) came out of the house, and told his mothor to bring the gun. The mother brought the gun and McDonald walked away. When about 88 yards from the accused the latter fired at him and missed. He fired again, and one o| the shots passed through McDonald's coat and shirt and grazed his skin. Accused's father said the gun was fired into the hedge to frighten McDonald.
