FREIGHTS TO THE COLONIES. London, March 6. The brokers have conceded half-a-crown decrease on freights when loading ships despatched by the Shippers' Committee. It is stated a Hamburg firm are quoting freight at £1 sterling.
BANKRUPTCY OF A DUKE'S SON.
London, March 6. Viscount Mandeville, son. of the Duke of Manchester, has become a bankrupt. Liabilities, £100,000 ; assets, nil.
ABDICATION OF KING MILAN. Belgrade, March 6. King Milan is indisposed, and political confusion having arisen, he has abdicated in favour of ' his son, Prince Alexander, who was born in August, 1876, and is now under 13 years of age, and who has been proclaimed King in his stead, with Messrs. Ristics, Protitich, and Belimarkosiko as regents. King Milan will probably leave for Italy for the benefit of his health.
King Milan is suffering from a nervous malady.
HONOURABLE ARTILLERY COMPANY RE-FORMED.
London, March 6. The Honourable Artillery Company which was disbanded some time ago through a disagreement with the officers, has been re-formed, and a royal warrant which has been issued restores it to its old position.
A CURATE CHARGED WITH ABDUCTION. London, March 6. The Rev. Mr. Evans, curate'of Poplar has been committed for trial on a charge of abduction.
PATRICK EGAN IN A NEW CHARACTER. Washington, March 6. Patrick Egan has been appointed United States Minister to Mexico.
NEW SOUTH WALES DEFICIT. London, March 6. A Reuters cablegram from Sydney in the English papers, states that the Colonial Treasurer had stated that there was a four million deficit last year. Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for the colony, writes to the papers today, stating that this sum is really the accumulation of years.
GERMAN AFRICAN 'EXPEDITION.
Berlin, March 6. Prinze Bismarck has recommended Captain Wissmann, who commands the German African expedition, to have a clear understanding with, the; English in his action in re-occupying , Bagamoya. Zanzibar, March 6. Severe fighting is reported to have taken place at Bagamoya. Amongst the wounded is Bushire, the leader of the rebel natives.
