HOWICK INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
The following is the list of prizes awarded at the exhibition held in Mr. Gilmour's Hall, near the Presbyterian Church, Howick on the 29th ultimo, in connection with the Howick and Pakuranga Band of Hope :— Vegetables.— Beans (broad), four entriesMrs. Stafford, Ist prize. Fruit.—Apples, fifteen entries : Miss A Hattonay, Ist prize; Mrs. Massey, 2nd; Mr'. W. I). Hattonay, commended. Pears, three entries: Master William Thompson, Ist prize. Plums, seven entries: Messrs. Trice Brothers, Ist prize; Mrs. Jacobs, 2nd. Damsons: Mrs. Jacobs, Ist prize: Mrs. Jacobs, 2nd. Collection of fruit exhibited by Mr. Lippiatt, highly commended; collection of fruit exhibited by Mr. Glanville highly commended; collection of fruit ex! hibited by Mr. T. Stringer, commendedcollection of fruit exhibited by Mr. John Smith, Howick, commended. Mr. Smith exhibited one bough containing 65 apples which was greatly admired. Preserved Fruit.—Six entries: Miss Bryan, Ist prize ; Miss Bryan, 2nd; Mrs. Henry Andrew, highly commended Honey.—One entry : Mrs. Henry Andrew, highly commended. . Flowkks.—Bouquet, ladies or hand, seva entries: Miss Ida Irvine, Ist prize; Wss Roberts, 2nd. Bouquet, scented buiroahole, two entries : Miss Roberts, Ist prize. Flowers, cut: Master W. T. Gilmour, Ist prize. Floral design : Miss E. King, highly commended.
Pot Plants.— Eight entries : Miss Lucy Andrew, Ist prize; Miss Mary Andrew, 2nd; Miss Mary Andrew 3rd. Pot ferns, seven entries: Miss E. Babe, Ist prize; Miss A. White 2nd. Pot niusk, two entries: Miss A. Mclnnes, Ist prize. Cereals.—Wheat, one sheaf, seven entries: Mr. R. Wallen, Ist prize; Mr. James Wallen, 2nd. Oats, one sheaf, seven entries: Mr. B. Paton, Ist prize; Miss E. King 2nd. Maize, one sheaf, four entries : Mr. W. E. Babe, Ist prize; Mr. H. Andrew, 2nd. Barley: One sheaf exhibited by Mr. E. Maclean attracted great attention; also, horse beans and linseed exhibited by Mr. William Andrew, and clover and rye from Mr. E. Fitzpatrick. Model stack, two entries : Mr. B. Paton, Ist prize. Confectionekt.—Cake (plain), three entries : Mrs. Kelsey Ist prize. Cake (currant or _ fancy), two entries: Mrs. Kelsey, Ist prize. Fancy tea bread, seven entries: Mrs. B. Paton, Ist prize ; Mrs. R. Hattonay, iun., 2nd. Scones, three entries: Mrs. W. Andrew, Ist prize; Mrs. Kelsey, 2nd. Butter. —One entry : Mrs. Harwood, sea, highly commended. This lady's butter wa greatly admired. It remained firm during the entire exhibition, and has aroused the curiosity of many buttermakers to find the secret of keeping outter firm at this season. Eggs.—Three entries : Mrs. Lindsay, Ist prize; Master Wm. R. Andrew, 2nd. Drawing.—Certificates of merit awarded to Miss Lucy Andrew and Mr. Matthew V. Giltnour. Maps: Miss Lizzie Babe, certificate of merit. Maps specially prepared at Howick school: Certificates of merit awarded to Masters A. Ockenden. Albert Davis, H.P. Andrew, Misses M aria and Agnes Andrew. These maps were the centre of attraction sJ various times during the day, and reflect great credit on Mr. Davis, the teacher of the school.
Needlework.—Hemming (under ten years of age), four entries : Emma Cooper, commended. Plain work : Adults, Miss Man* Andrew, Ist and 2nd prizes ; juvenile, Miss Agnes Andrew, Ist prize. Fancy work (crochet) : Miss Emily White, Ist prize; Mis Lizzie Babe, 2nd; Miss Essie Irvin, worked handkerchief, highly commended ; Miss Jane Andrew, knitted d 'oyleys, highly commended. Child's dress: Miss Mary White, Ist prize. This exhibit showed the artistic skill of that lady. Miscellaneous. —Sanitary and drain pip«Si manufactured and exhibited by Mr. Jf" 11 Granger, Turanga Creek, ranging from two to eighteen inches in diameter, received a certificate of merit for excellent quality ana superior finish. Foot-scraper, made Master T. Gilmour, also received certificate of merit. One pair oars, by B. Paton, a&a garden-roller, made from two oil drums, by Hugh K. Gilmour, were both highlv commended. Collection of island shells, by &■ Davis, certificate of merit. Pictorial screen, by Mrs. Gilmour, certificate of merit, toilection of curios, made of kauri gum, &° a pictorial frame, carved by penknife and P u, together without nails, bv Mr. M. Dunbar, certificate of merit awarded. A davenport made by Mr. G. Roberts, Pakuranga, attracted special attention for superior worsj manship. Shell-house, made and exhibits by Mrs. Barnood (jun.), highly commended.
