MEETING OF WAIKATO FARMERS.
THE FROZEN MEAT COMPANY'S MANURES. [FROM OCm OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OrAcro, Wednesday. A HEETIXG of farmers was held at Delaney's Hotel, yesterday, somo forty being prosont, to hear an explanation from Air. Symons, of tho Frozen Meat and Storage Company's Manure Department. Mr. Robert Salmon was voted to the chair, and introduced Mr. Symons to the meeting-. Mr. Symons said lie was vory sorry to have to meet the settlers of Waikato under such circumstances, but having an interosb in the company an well aa being manager of tho Manure Department, he had consulted, wit.i the directors, and they had decided that ho should come up tho Waikato to see the farmers, and explain as woll as he could the reason of the vory poor anaylsie of their superphosphates, and also to lay before them what the company intended to do in the way of re-bate and future protection. In explanation, he said tho materials used, such as blood, offal, etc., in making phosphates had been efeposed to the weather, and certain quantities of ammonia had evaporatod, but to avoid this in the future they had erected sheds to place it in. The company, he said, intended to at once give a rebate upon all phosphates purchased from them since tho Ist July last. With regard to the future, they were desirous of re-establishing themselves, and would endeavour to place themselves upon a better footing with their eliotits, and proposed to give a substantial subscription to the funds of the Waikato Farmers' Association towards paying the expense; of chemical analysis made by the association, and to give such analyst access at .ill times to their manure work?, to take therefrom samples of mauures and have them analysed from time to time, and to sell upon such analysis. A groat many questions were put and answered, and Mr. Symons arranged to meet the settlers at Ohaupo on Tuesday next, and place before them the company's definite proposals in writing. Tho settlers did not hesitate to speak in a very outspoken manner to Mr. Symons, and he was pretty plainly told that it wus not the mere money value between the price of good and inferior manure sold to the farmers, bub the loss of crops entailed by using the inferior manure, and no rebate would make up this difference.
