TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. [BY TELEGBArH. PRKSS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Wednesday. Tite Taranaki Jockey Club's Summer Meeting commenced to-day. The weather was fine, and tho attendance fair. The following were the results : — The Taraxaki Jockey Cr.un Handicap of 2.'{Qsovs. Two miles. Mr. C. Bcreaford's b h Escutcheon, 4yrs, by Musket—Rosetto. 7st 71b (Wright) 1 Mr. L. A. Levy's bin Clogs, Sst 21b ... 2 Marlborough, Bst lib 3 Emmet (Gsfc 61b) also ran. Clogs was the favourite. The flag fell to a bad start, Marlborough Retting several lengths advantage, while Emmet was left at the post. For a few seconds Marlborough led past the stand, with Clogs three lengths away, and Escutcheon a couple of lengths behind. At the back of the course, Clogs and Escutcheon had partially overtaken Marlborough, and at tho mile, they were only a length away from him. He led past the stand for the second time, however, going very strongly. At the mile and a-half, Clogs passed him, and soon Wright moved on Escutcheon, who came up full of running. At a mile and three-quarters the race was over, bar the shouting. Escutcheon eventually winning in a canter by two lengths. Time, Srnin 4'Jsoe. Blue Bell led over the fit - 3t hurdle, with Pretendor a length behind, then came Ruapehu, Armourer, and Jubilee. At the hurdle at the back of the course Ruapehu come to grief, and Pretender and Bluebell ran off. Clarice hore assumed the lead, and wad never afterwards caught, winning by a length from Jubilee, Armourer a good third. Time, 4min Dividend, £0 7s.

Hack Race of lOsovs. — Waireka, 1 ; Goodday, 2; Mistletoe, 3. Dividend, i!"2I 3s. Hack" Hurdles. —LeClair, 1; Liberator, '2 ; Te Ngamu, 3. Won easily. Danahy, the rider of Te INgamu, met with a nasty accident, but was uot seriously hurt. Dividend, £1 15s.

Maiden Pirate of 40sovs. —Cushla, 1; Karewa. '2 ; Eileen, 3. Only three started. Cushla jumped away with the lead, and was never caught, winning easily from Karewa, Eileen a bad third. Time, 2min 51 see. Dividend, £1 ISs. Novel Race of 25.sovs.—Lifebuoy, 1; Vendor, 2; Medora, 3. Won oasily. Dividend, £1 i>3. The winner w;ks sold for £10 10s.

FLYING Haxdicap of GOsova: threequarters of a mile. —Escutcheon, Sat 31b, 1 ; Rtlfus, 7sfc 121b, '2; Cushla, 3. Pretender (7st 111b) also ran. Foxtmi, Recluse, and Marlborough wore scratched. Rufus got the best of the start, and led till Hearing; the home turn, where Escutcheon came up with a rush under the whip, forged ahead, and a grand run home ensued, Escutcheon winning by a length from Rufus, Cushla third. Time, lmin 18isec. Dividend, £1 10s.

POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. GISBORN'E, Wednesday. For tlic second clay's racing of the Poverty Bay Turf Club the weather was fine, and tho meeting successful. The following were the results of the various events :—• Hurdle Handicap, of SOsovs, two and a-half miles. Mr. Gallagher's Peter Osbeck, 1; Air. Green's Bit of Blue, 2; Mr. Ellingham's Harold 3. Ariel was the only other starter. Peter Osbeck led to over the lirst hurdle, then Ariel bolted, and was not steadied till the course had been gone over, and the straight was entered. He was then loading by four lengths, but Harold overtook him and assumed tho lead till near home, when Peter and Bit of Blue got ahead, the former winning by two lengths. Time, umin 41* see. Dividend, £1 !)s. Puhlican's Puksk of lOOsovs, one and aquarter miles.—2ilr. Hepburn's Audacity (7st 121b), 1; Mr. Hamon's Nora (Gat), 2; Mr. Bobbett's Lady Norah (9st 61b), 3. Man Friday (7st 91b) was the other starter. Man Friday assumed the lead, but gave way at the mile poet beaten. Lady Norah thon led, but was challenged in the straight by Audacity, and Nora won by threequarters of a length. Time, 2min 14sec. Dividend, £2 14s. Tradesmen's Handicap of 140ao\'a, one and a-half miles. —Fitzjames, 1; Lady Florin, 2; Audacity, 3. Fitzjames led from the start and was never headed. Dividend, £10 ss. A protest was entered on the grounds that the acceptance was not received in time.
