PUKEKARORO SPORTS.
As Boxing Day is observed as a close holiday throughout this district, the public very naturally wend their way to the village of Hakaru, which almost from time immemorial has held a pre-occupancy of right to hold out something more or less attractive to excursionists on the day following Christmas Day. A large number 01 people gathered to witness the sports which came off on the cricket ground adjoining the hall. Though these sports have always been popular with our residents, yet it may be said that never until this year could they lay claim to have been held under "distinguished patronage." The presence of Mr. Abrams (Waipu), of the constabulary force, in uniform, acting in consort with Mr. F. Sturch, the respected special constable for the district, produced no terror among a naturally orderly and law-abiding community, but, on the contrary, their appearance lent additional cheerfulness and importance to the programme of the day, which was as follows : —

At the conclusion of the sports about 100 persons partook of tea in the long room of the Cornish Arms Hotel. In the evening the Mississippi Minstrels gave a further exhibition _of their darky proclivities before an admiring and rather large company assembled in the Hakaru Hall.—[Own Correspondent.]
