THE SABBATH QUESTION.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— a recent issue of your paper appeared a letter under the signature of *' A Jew." The said writer is eagerly inquiring who changed tho Sabbath from the seventh to the first day. In reply, I ask the said Jew can he prove that the Sabbath has been changed? Although the Jews have lost the run of tho Sabbath, and are observing from six o'clock on Friday to six o'clock on Saturday, is no proof on the subject in question; for the command is "six days shall ye labour, and the seventh shall be the Sabbath." The Seventh Day Adventists are compassing sea and land, claiming and clamouring for the seventhday sabbath; yes, and it is the seventh day that the writer and all the Christians in Auckland and in Christendom celebrate. The following is the manner by which we reckon the days of the week to find the seventh day the Sabbath : —Monday, first; Tuesday, second ; Wednesday, third ; Thursday, fourth ; Friday, fifth; Saturday, sixth ; and Sunday, sevenththo Sabbath. Now, Mr. Editor, the Seventh Day Adventists and the Jewish nation are in a deplorable and pitiable state, for they will nob celebrate the Sabbath because the said day meets them on the first of the week; besides, when the Sunday is specified out to them as being the seventh day, they will nob observe it because they have followed tradition and missed the Sabbath, bub the said tradition directed them to observe Saturday instead, an absurd act, which had not been commanded in the Bible. Let the Adventisb reckon the days of the week a? stated above, Monday the first, and so on, and they will certainly find the first day of the week they refuse to admit to be precisely the seventh day, the original Sabbath. To return to the Jew, the writer of the letter in question, I shall direct him to the Bible to seek knowledge on this point, for he is anxious to find out who has changed the Sabbath ; therefore let him read and study the second chapter of Hosea, a prophet of his own nation, who had predicted that the Jews would be void of the Sabbath, for it is recorded in the

eleventh verse. " I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her Sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts." Mark then that he had predicted that all their Sabbaths were to cease, therefore the Jews are devoid of their Sabbath as had been predicted.—l am, &c, C.S.
