THE AUCKLAND REGATTA.

The weekly meeting of the Regatta Committee was hold last night in the Waitemata Hotel, and there was a largo attendance of members. A large amount of routine business in regard to the details of arrangements for the aquatic carnival on the 29th was transacted, and tenders were accented as follows : —Band for flagship, Hunter's Naval Band (14 men) ; do. for wharf, Newton Band (16 men) ; mark boats, Mr. Laity ; starter's steamer, s.s. Planet. Very encouraging reports in regard to the probable number of competitors for the various events were brought in. The large cutter race promises to bo a most interesting contest, and no less than nine craft of this description will probably take part. As the race is to bo sailed almost entirely within the limits of the harbour, the public will be enabled to follow it from start to finish. Tho small cutter and fishing boat races were also spoken of as arousing much enthusiasm, and splendid struggles for victory may bo anticipated, while the yacht events are likely to prove as interesting as in previous years. The fact of Paul Tubaere's monster war canoe being certain to be engaged in the events of the day will doubtless prove an attraction to many visitors, while tho war dance on the wharf and fireworks display in the evening are sure to be popular. Altogether, so far as the sports themselves go, the prospects of the 18S9 Regatta bear a very rosy aspect. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.]

Thames, Monday. It is probable after all that a Thames crew will compete in the Champion Whaleboat Race at the anniversary regatta on the 29th. Messrs. H. Gallagher, C. and A. Rolton, J. and T. Johnson, with W. Rolton as steeroar, intend entering on their own account, and will go into training at once. The Hauraki Rowing Club has granted them the use of their boat, the Hauraki.
