THAMES NEWS.
[iROil our owx correspondent.] Thames, Saturday. At the Police Court this morning a man named John Thompson was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour in Mount Eden Gaol for being an habitual drunkard, and one month for using obscene language, the two sentences to run concurrently. This was the seventh conviction against Thompson for drunkenness during the present month. The Big Pump resumed pumping operations this morning after a stoppage of five days, during which time the boilers and flues have been cleaned out, and a few slight repairs effected to the machinery. During the stoppage the water has risen considerably above the 400 feet level, but Mr. Phillips expects to have it reduced sufficiently to admit of the surrounding companies resuming operations at their low levels on Wednesday morning next.
