BANKRUPTCY.
W. F. D. Sopek, a bankrupt, made the ' following statement before the Oilicial Assignee yesterday : —I am a bootmaker by trade, and have been in business about six years in the Waikato district, and latterly at Kihikihi and the King Country. I have not at any time been able to make move than a bare living ; and by reason of sickness in the family for the last four years I have got into arrears for material, rent, and household necessaries, to the amount of £117 Is bd, my present indebtedness. Most of the creditors understand the cause of my difficulty, and have not pressed for their money. An Auckland creditor sued me for £6 3s Sd, and gob judgment, upon which I filed bo avoid the consequences of non-pay-ment. I had no means whatever, and had to raise £9 8s for filing fees, partly by borrowing and partly by getting in small book debts. lam aware that the money 1 spent in filing would have paid the creditors Is Sd in the £ ; but as they had refused to accept 2s I felt that I had no alternative. I have not the least prospect of bettering my position, and therefore can make no suggestion for payment of any part of my debts. I have nothing in the nature of assets except some household furniture, worth about £15, and a few book debts amounting to £5 10s, which are of little or no value.
