THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The Rev. E. H. Gulliver, in his lecture on the 20th, under the auspices of the Anti-Poverty Society, pointed out that immense fortunes were possessed by the Duke of Westminster and others, whilst the poor around them were _ starving, going on to say that it did not require much foresight to perceive the danger which threatened society whilst such a condition of things existed. But the rev. gentleman did not say that amongst other philanthropic acts, the Duke of Westminster has lately divided twentyfive acres between Chester and Eaton Hall into quarter-acre allotments, which he has let to one hundred labourers and mechanics. The scheme is a great success, every allotment being taken up and worked by spade husbandry.lam. &c., JUSTICE. Parnell, November 23, ISBB.
