NEW ZEALAND BEEKEEPERS' ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the above Association was held at Mr. Hopkins' offices, Queenstreet, yesterday afternoon. Mr. G. Peacocke in the chair, who apologised for the absence' of the president, Mi*. F. La wry, M.H.R., who had gone out of town. The (Committee appointed at the last meeting to interview the shipping companies 'with regard to the proposed bee convention, reported that they had waited.upon Messrs. Henderson and Ranson, managers of the Union and Northern S.S. Companies, and Mr C. Hudson.of the Railway Department. They were met in a very liberal spirit by each gentleman, the two' former at once offered to issue return tickets at single fares to bona fide beekeepers, while the latter viewed the matter in a very favourable light, and promised to lay it before the head of his department, and use his influence in the desired direction. A letter was also read from the Registrar-General, stating that he feared the annual returns of honey and beeswax raised in the colony could not be published in the agricultural statistics without largely increasing the cost of taking the same, as bees were kept on small holdings of less than an acre, and 011 holdings where there is no agriculture, and some in towns. It was then resolved that the secretary should again wite to the Registrar-General offering, on behalf of the New Zealand Beekeepers' Association, to collect the statistics in towns and on small holdings, providing the Government would collect the returns on the larger ones. A letter was also received from the Horticultural Society re the proposed bee convention and bee and honey show. It was resolved that Messrs. Lawry and Hopkins wait upon the Society at their next meeting, and make all necessary arrangements. Several communications were read from various beekeepers approving of the proposed show and convention, and promising all the assistance in their power. On the proposition of Mr. Peacocke, the secretary was requested to convey the thanks of the Association to the managers of the shipping companies for their courtesy in reducing the fares.
