The com- , : munication was received. NOTICES OF MOTION. The following notices of motion were : handed in 11) By the Rev. J. Dukes re the baneful effects of ultra-sectarianism : (2) by the Rev. W. L. Salter, " That the Chairman arrange for a sermon on some topic of i special interest, to be preached at each Disi trict Meeting (3) by the Rev. T. G. HOME MISSIONS. 1 The District Meeting then considered the | estimated expenditure tor next year. Grants j to Maori Mission : It was resolved, " That j Conference be recommended that all contri- ! butions raised in Hokianga by Maoris and | Europeans be paid into the Home Mission Fund, and that the stipend of the European I missionary be paid out of that fund. The ' following grants were recommended: — j Hokianga: Missionary's stipend, £150; [ native ministers. £90. Kaipara : Missionary's stipend, £200 ; native minister, £70 : travelling, £25; house rent. £52. Grant to Home Mission stations: Raglan, £15 for one quarter; Whangaroa, £25; Bay of Islands, £20. THREE KINGS COLLEGE. The following committee were recommended for the Three Kings Institution — The ministers of the Auckland and Manukau circuits, with Messrs. J. Edson, R. Hobbs, M.H. R., F. L. Prime, T. Buddie, E. Allen, J. Gittos, J. Probert, P. H. Mason, W. McDowell, 8.A., J. Wiseman, F. A. White, W. Griffith, T. McMaster, R. Arthur, James Buttle, T. Allen, G. Winstone, and William Tliorne. The annual examination at the Three Kings takes place to-day. AFTERNOON SESSION. The District Meeting reassembled at halfpast two, when prayer was offered by the Rev. J. Dukes. GRANTS TO HOME MISSION STATIONS. It was moved by Mr. 8. Hetherington, and seconded bv the Rev. E. Best, " That tiltsum of £15 \>e granted to the Raglan Home Mission station to cover the needs of the ensuing -March quarter, and, if on inquiry by the Chairman, the future support of the agent be not forthcoming, he be withdrawn." Carried. A lengthy discussion took place on the Home Mission stations at Helensville and Wade. It was moved by the Rev. S. Lawrv and seconded by the Rev. T. F. Jones. "That Wade and Helensville be united and made one Home Mission station, with one Home missionary to reside at the Wade." Carried. GRANTS TO ENGLISH CIRCUITS. Mahurangi, £45; Upper Thames, £40; Hamilton, :50; Te Awamutu, £50; Paparoa, £,SO; Northern Wairoa, £50; Tauranga (special), £24, an ordinary grant of £60 provided Tauranga take a married man; I Whangarei. £30. | EMPLOYMENT OF LAYMEN. ] It was moved and seconded, " That in th( j opinion of this meeting it is highly expedient that the services of laymen should be mor< largelv used on Hume Mission deputation work. 1 ' It was stated that such a plan has worked admirably in England, and 't was thought that it would work well in this colony. The motion was carried unanimously. GRANTS FOR PARSONAGES. The Rev. S. Lawrv moved, " That the resolution which permits grants to be made for ' parsonages and furniture be re-inserted in j the minutes of Conference." On division, the motion was negatived. COLLECTIONS. The Rev. J. Law moved. "That in view of increasing the income from native congregai tions towards the support of the work of God ! among them, the missionaries be requested I to make collections at all their Sunday ser- ! vices." Tne Rev. William Gittos explained . that already this method had been adopted. i On the explanation, the motion was withdrawn. FOREIGN MISSIONS. The following amounts have been received for the Foreign Missions :—Auckland (Pittstreet). £58 5s lid; North Shore, £12 12s lid; Thames, £12 .is 8d ; Manukau, £10 9 s I 7d ; Cambridge, £3 13s fid ; Te Awainutu. .£3 4s 6d : Northern Wairoa, £1 15s 5d ; Tan ranga, £2 13s : Whangaroa, £1 Ss ; Auckland j (Grafton Road). £27 Is fld ; Mahurangi, £1 17s 7d ; Upper Thames, £2 18s lid; Franklin, £2 3s fid ; Hamilton, £4 Os 3d ; Paparoa 14s Id ; Hokianga, IDs fid : Whangarei, £2: Coromandel, £1 6s fid. The total amount raised for the fund has been £155 83 Bd. This is a larger amount by £44 than was raised last year. The list is not yet complete, asmore returns are to come in. ft was stated that the large increase in this fund is due to the visit of the Rev. Geo. Brown, General Secretary of Foreign Missions. It was resolved '' That the hearty thanks of the meeting be given to the Rev. Geo. Brown for his valuable deputation work." The total amount raised in the district Is £321 16s. It was resolved " That the Upper Thames Circuit be relieved of paying connexional charges on £80, the amount expended in the work of the Home Missionary at Paeroa." REMOVAL EXPENSES OF MINISTERS. The Rev. J. Law moved " That the rime has come when the removal expenses of Ministers to circuits should be made a charge on the Contingent Fund." Mr. Law stated that such a change would be beneficial to the ministers themselves, the circuits, and Stationing Committee, and that it was in force in some of the other Conferences. The Revs Keall, Best, Dukes, Rishworth, Lawry, and Taylor spoke to the motion, and it was eventually decided to remit the further consideration of the matter to the Conference SUNDAY-SCHOOL RULES. On the motion of the Rev. Wm. Keall, it was resolved, "That this meeting expresses the hope that the Conference will inquire whether the resolution of the General Conference respecting the amended Sundayschool rules, printed in a separate form, has been carried out and the copies circulated." MISCELLANEOUS. The Rev. J. Law had permission to return to his circuit. It was resolved, " That the Conference be recommended to relieve Tauranga from its obligation to take a married minister." The meeting adjourned at a quarter to six to seven o'clock next evening.
