FIRE AT GREY MOUTH.
[BV — RRKSS ASSOCIATION.] Gkeymoutii, Sunday. A kirk occurred last night at the resilience o f Mr. Blackmore, brewer, at the corner of Murray and Alexander streets. In a marvellously short time the building was in dames, and by the time the engine arrived a second house, occupied by Mr. Dobson, surveyor, was also on tire, lie managed to save most of his furniture, but lost his theodolite. The second house was mostly pulled clown in order to save a third one, occupied by Mr. Strike, cordial maker. Mr. and Mrs. Blackmore, who were out at the time of the fire, saved nothing, and their loss is heavy, although the furniture was insured for £150. The cause of the fire is supposed to have been a defect in the chimney. Harry Little, a fireman, was seriously injured in the head by a grappling hook falling on him. Several others were slightly injured. The children in Blackmores house knew nothing of the fire until it was dangerously near, and some little difficulty was experienced in saving one of the youngsters, who struggled against being taken out of bed, though the roum was full of smoke. McKinty was insured # in the Standard and National for i-IUO on "his three houses.
