Buckeye reapers and BINDERS. IMPORTANT FIELD TRIAL [EVENING PRESS, WELLINGTON'.] The first shipment of the new Lowdown Buckeye Reapers and Binders arrived by the Rebecca Crowell last week, and a sample machine has been set up by Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co., who will have it on view until Monday next, when it will be sent to Carterton for exhibition at the Wairarapa A. and P. Show. The special features of this machine are its adaptability for hillsides without sideland apparatus usually necessary on others, no necessity for transport appliances, only one canvas ; with new patent knotter and binder complete. The Lowdown is lighter in dead weight by about 3001b, proportionately lighter in draft, and has fewer wearing parts than any other harvester in use. By the arrangement of its binding apparatus it has been fitted to cut and bind any class of crop on any class of land that can be ploughed, however steep. By the use of a fast direct knife stroke high speed is given, and by this means stiff heavy green crop, cocksfoot or clover bottoms are successfully harvested. The capacity of the machine has been adjusted to carry crop from seven to eight feet in length where necessary, of in short stuff as low as the same number or inches. A light steel sheaf carrier accompanies each, and the whole machine is » 3 complete and efficient as it is possible (to make it. Farmers requiring machines this season will require to see these without delay. Only a few remain unsold, and in the North the entire season's stock was long since disposed of. A few only of the Buckeye Light Folding Elevator machines are available. These are too well known to require any description. The Buckeye Ejevator holds the grand national gold medal of Victoria (1886), beating Hornsby and McCormack; the South Australian Government award, Roseworthy Royal Agricultural College (1887), beating Hornsby, McCormack, Wood, Howard, and others ; and the first* actual field trial in Australia this season, Balaclava, S.A. (October 24), beating Hornsby, Howard, Wood, and others. The above refers to actual field rivals only, and does not include any of the show honours won by this machine. Within the past few days two cables have been received referring to two very important Victorian A. and P. shows —" Buckeye first at Echuca, beating M c " Cormack, Hornsby, Wood, Deering, Masse)', Howard, and others and yesterday. ' Buckeye first at Goulburn Valley a nt ' North-eastern A. and P. Show, beating McCormack, Hornsby, Wood, Howard, Deering, and others." Gentlemen interested in economic harvesting should certainly become acquainted with both these machine*.
