F IRE AT CAMBRIDGE.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Friday. A fire occurred here this morning shortly after two o'clock, the building formerly occupied by the Cambridge Jam Factory being burned. The premises were owned by Mrs. Murphy, and used by her husband as a carpenter's shop. Murphy was aroused in the night by his wife, who heard a noise, and on looking out from his dwellinghouse, which is close to the promises destroyed, saw his workshop in flames. On the alarm being given, plenty of help was obtained, and an abundant supply of water being available from the tanks of Mr. Webber, a neiehbour, the fire was confined to the place where it originated. Webber's premises were in great danger, a detached kitchen at the back of his house having one side and the roof burned, and only through the courageous efforts of volunteers a fire, which would have swept away the neighbouring block, was checked. Murphy is ins'iro l for £70 in the Colonial office* which will not cover his loss.
