With reference to the question which. has been raised as to the powers of Superintendent Hughes in granting the use o the city fire appliances, or in permitting the Fire Brigade to work at tires outside the city boundary, we may mention that his orders on the subject are imperative. They are as follow:—" September 7, 1883. You are requested to con- . nne the services of the Fire Brigade strictly to the limits of the city, unless arrangements be made with the Council for their services in the even of any such contingency arising. —P.
