BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Board of Education held their ordinary meeting yesterday, when there were present : —Messrs. Upton (presiding), Carr, Goldie, Lennox, Luke, Cooper, Monk, Udy, and Moat.
Caretaker. —Mr. Wilson was appointed caretaker of tho Girls' High School building. Pokeno Hill ScnooL—ld was resolved, " That the Pokeno Hill and Pokeno Valley School districts be amalgamated, and that the Pokeno Hill School be permanently closed."
The "Strict Average."—A letter was laid on the table from the secretary of the South Canterbury Education Board, enclosing a resolution protesting against the "strict average," and asking thab the Board co-operate in urging its abolition. School Accommodation'.—lt was decided that the expenditure upon a proposed school building at Mata (Mangapai) be approved provided that a plan be submitted to Mr. Allright. The Board resolved to provide additional school accommodation at Puni. The consideration of an application for additions to the Russell school was deferred.
