This was done, and Sir Henry Parkes, Premier, endorsed th« '■ promise made by the Minister of Justice, ho bseqently withdrew his" , oonsent to the course proposed. Holt's solicitor, in a letter accompanying the publication of this correspondence, accuses the Government of torturing Holt by ; holding out, false 1 hopes that his term of imprisonment would be commuted. .
