A BOY ORDERED TO BE FLOGGED.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, Friday. Hodgetts, a boy of fifteen, convicted of rape on a little girl at the Hutt, was yesterday sentenced to six months' hard labour and two floggings with the cat of 20 lashes each. The Chief Justice said it was no use giving a lad of his age a long sentence. He thought a short term with a severe whipping would be more efficacious, and the gaoler having stated that the lad could bear 24 lashes —the sentence was recorded as above, His Honor directed one Hogging to be administered at once, and the other towards the end of the sentence.
