THE AUCKLAND SHIPMENT OF HORSES TO INDIA.
ARRIVAL AT CALCUTTA.
Tite New Zealand Stud Company yesterday received a cablegram from Captain \\ almsley to the effect that the s.s. Bucephalus, which left hero at the end of August with a shipment of 300 horses, arrived safely at Calcutta on Thursday last, with the loss of '20 head. This may be regarded as a very satisfactory result, and, as the company had an insurance of £10 on each horse, and only pay freight on those landed alive, they will suffer little loss by the mortality. The next information as to the sale of the horses will be awaited with much interest ; as should the venture turn out a success this important branch of trade will no doubt receive further attention in New Zealand. We may remark that the New Zealand Stud Company's action in sending horses to India has already had a good effect in this district, by inducing farmers all through the YVaikato and other districts to raise stock suitable for that market. The Stud Company have this season sent both Ingoinar and Cap-a-pie to Waikato, and Fusilade (one of the best looking of Musket's sons) was also taken thence last week to be at the service of breeders.
