WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

[ [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Hamilton, Friday. [ At the meeting of the Waikato County I Council to-day— Messrs. Primrose (chairman), Smith, Seddon, Barugh, and Johnson—the Mercer Highway Board asked that the gravel pit be vested in them, conditionally on the Board allowing the Council to use the gravel. The Council refused the application, chosing to retain possession of the gravel pit, but were willing to give the gravel as heretofore to the Mercer board. It was decided to give Mr. Arnold a slaughtering license if he applied for it at the annual licensing meeting, fee to be £1, arid the fees chargeable, as provided bv the Act. Mr. Cooni, engineer to the Railway Department, wrote promising to bring the matter of the obstructed crossing at Huntly before the Department, and that meantime no interference would be offered to the public using the crossing. A letter was received from Mr. S. Vaile, thanking the Council for their recent action taken in regard to giving his railway scheme a trial. The clerk was instructed to apply to the Raglan Council for their share of law costs in resisting the Auckland Hospital claims. The credit balance of the county was stated at £158 17s sd. The riding balances were: Kirikiriroa Riding, debit, £20; Tamahere, credit, £3: Cambridge Riding, £103; Rangiriri, credit, £189. The clerk was instructed to prosecute Mr. W. M. Hay for driving at other than a walking pace over the Narrows Bridge. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Seddon, Steele, and the Chairman was appointed to visit the Peach Grove Educational Reserve Endowment, and report as to the best means of utilising it. On the motion of Mr. Johnson it was resolved to undertake about £180's worth of work in the Rangariri outlying district on the following works Forming three miles of road, from Huntly towards Taupiri, to connect with metalled road ; £25 to be expended on road from Churchill to RangirSri station ; £50 to be spent on the Wairangi Road grading, Lock s Hill; refascining and soiling fifteen chains of road near Wallace's, and forming and cutting through the hill near Keddy's property; also, cutting and forming road near Mill Creek ; a sum of £15 to be spent on Matahura Road ; and lastly, £50 in surface work on road from Meremere Bridge to school-house, and on Wliangamarino station to the South Road. i
