FLOODS IN AUSTRIA. Innsbruck, September 12. Serious floods have occurred throughout the Tyrol, and the whole of Northern Austria. The damage is reported to be very severe.
THE PAPAL DELEGATE TO IRELAND. London, September 13. M. Persico, the Papal delegate, will not return to Ireland. MILITARY OPERATIONS IN INDIA. Calcutta, September 10. Eight thousand troops will be mobilised for the purpose of punishing the tribes who recently murdered Colonel Ballye and Corporal Winston. THE BANK OF~AUSTRALASIA. London, September 13. The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of 12 per cent., and carried £13,000 to the reserve fund. POLITICAL CHANGES. Londox, September 13. It is reported that Mr. W. H. Smith, the leader of the House of Commons, is to be raised to the Peerage, and that he will be succeeded as leader by Mr. G. J. Goschen, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. RISE IN FREIGHTS. London, September 13. Measurement freight by steamers will probably be raised to 80s a ton,, shortly. Measurement freight by sailing vessel has already advanced by 2s 6d.
