WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

—♦— [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Wednesday. At the meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board to-day, there were present—the chairman, and Messrs. Primrose, Seddon, McDonald, Brunskill, Hally, Chepmell, and Hunter. A letter was read from Mr. Mander, drawing attention to the case of H. P. McPherson, a paralytic. The Chairman (Mr. Graham) said the Board had done its duty, and their report would show its present intention. The report, which was read and adopted, recommended that '20s a week be given for boarding McPherson until the Old Men's Refuge was ready. The oldest of his four children, it was thought, was able to earn its own living, and an endeavour should be made to get the three younger children into the St. Stephen's Home. Steps are also to be taken to make the adult members of the family contribute to the costs of support. Considerable dissatisfaction was expressed at the Auditor-General refusing to pass the item of £5 for retaining fees to the Board's solicitor, Mr. Hay, and Messrs. Chepmell and Hally were appointed a committee to examine into the matter and report to the next meeting. Mr. Macdonald said he had visited Mr. Armstrong, and reported that the latter would be only too glad to pay for the hospital attendance to his son, for which he was recently sued. Deaths in the family and other losses prevented him from satisfying the debt, but they would pay whenever they were able. He thought it was a case in which the Board should give time. It was agreed to do so. The chairman was instructed to telegraph to the Government informing them of the prevalence of typhoid fever amongst the Whatawhata natives. Accounts to the amount of £128 4s 5d were passed for payment.
