The usual course is for Parliament to be prorogued by His Excellency in person, or by a commission of eminent men, and thus the session is terminated with a ceremonial having something or stately dignity about it. But on this occasion, the members are simply allowed to drift away about their business as they like, and they are told by a notice in the Gazette that they are not wanted any more. This is a fitting close to a session which has been conducted with less dignity and decorum than any past session of the Parliament of New Zealand. It is a suitable con elusion to a session in which the members have not in the least regarded the condition of the country, in w ' ac . they have grossly neglected the duty which the constituencies specially called upon them to do. At the close ot torniei sessions we have heard of constituent 1 '' 5 going to meet their representatives « u ' acclamations for some conspicuous part they had played in the party warfare of politics, or to salute them adversely for some unpopular part they na( taken. But this time nobody vvii trouble about them ; they will he lew severely alone, and will have to estimate public feeling as they best canIt is a great misfortune for «ie colony that this should be so. this sort of thing goes on much longer, a place in the House of Representative* will be avoided by good men istea of being eagerly sought after. Let u» hope that after next session, when tiie number of members will be ream"eu> •• better state of things will prevail, an that there will be more of patriot!"" and less of self-seeking amongst in members.
