THE MANAIA GOLDFIELD.

We are now able to publish the complete particulars of the result obtained at Messrs. G. Fraser and Sons' reduction works of six tons of quartz treated for Messrs. Blackmore and utter from their new gold discovery at the iJanaia, between Coromandel and Tapu Creek. The following is the report of the firm. The return, it will be seen, is of a most satisfactory character, and stamps the discovery as one of very great importance :— Herewith we hand you particulars of specimens belonging to the six ton parcel treated .some two days hack, viz. :— Six ton parcel as previously given— oz. dwt. gr. Cambria.—The legal manager has just returned from visiting the mine, and reports as follows :—lntermediate level: The hangingwall lode, where the last haul of picked stone came from, has so greatly improved that an extra four men will at once be employed on it. The four-pound specimen retained on hand—as a sample from this lode —is no#at the company's office. The main lode above No. 3 level is being stoped, and promises payable crushing dirt for a long time to come. The section worked and the character of the main lode in the drive promises a new block underneath, nearer the Cambria section, and hitherto untouched. The No. 7 leader being stoped above No. 3 level yields payable quartz—two little pieces are at the company's office. A winze is being sunk on No. 6 leader, at No. 3 level ; it is 5 inches wide— little pieces are at the company's oflice. At No. 4 level the crosscut is being extended towards the winze sunk on No. 7 leader, on a reef about 20 inches wide, in country that warrants the expectation that gold will be found. Further developments in this locality may at any time prove of importance. Taken altogether, and in view of all the work going on in opening up the mine, the prospects are encouraging. Trenton.The Secretary visited the mine on Saturday last, and had the pleasure of finding that a complete change in the class of country had taken place in the bottom of the shaft. The hard rock has disappeared, and given way to sandstone country, with quartz veins through it. The contractors are sanguine they are through the hard rock, and that rapid progress will now be made with the finish of their contract. New Fearnought.—The legal manager visited the claim last Saturday. The work done since his last visit has been considerable. The crosscut to intersect certain leaders in which gold was seen in the winze is making good progress, and the country driven through is all that can be desired.
