AUCKLAND COLLEGE AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

« —■ The regular meeting of the Auckland College and Grammar School Governors was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Colonel Haultain (in the chair), Messrs. Lennox, Upton, S. Luke, Rev. C. M. Nelson, and Dr. Kidd, registrar.

Resignation.— letter was received from Mr. Graves Aickin, tendering his resignation as a member of the Board of Governors. It was with much regret he resigned, as he always felt a deep interest in the work pud future of secondary education. The Rev. C. M. Nelson moved, " That Mr. Aickin's resignation be accepted with regret," and this was unanimously carried. The Chairman moved, " That Professor Brown be elected to fill the vacancy." The motion was seconded by Mr. Upton, and it was supported by the other members of the Board. Agreed to. Extension of Scholarships.— headmaster asked that extension of time might be allowed to two pupils, Masters J. Nome and G. Robb, who were elected to district scholarships, tenable for three years. It was agreed to ask the Board of Education to extend the term, and that they be informed that the Grammar School Board would continue to give free tuition. Unsigned Leases.— Devore and Cooper called attention to the fact that a number of leases had not been executed, and they forwarded six of those for execution. On the motion of the Chairman, they were ordered to be executed and signed by the Chairman ana the Rev. Mr. Nelson. Gymnasium.—Dr. Murray Moore offered for sale for £10 a gymnastic apparatus, which was in every respect suitable for the school, and was adaptable for girls. It cost him £16. It was approved by Mr. Carrollo, the Rev. C. M. Nelson, and others. Mr. Upton suggested that it should be brought here for examination. He approved of the idea, but he thought they might be obtained at a much more moderate cost. Dr. Kidd said it was a patent. On the motion of Mr. Lennox, the offer was declined.

Hendry-street.—Mr. Mays wrote that a tenant, Mrs. Lecky, asked for the erection of an extra room. She was paying 8s a week, and was a reliable tenant, and the estimate of cost was £29. The question was referred to the Property Committee, and the name of Mr. Lennox was added to that committee instead of Mr. Aickin.

Alteration- to School Buildings.— Authority was asked to accept tenders for alterations to the school building, so as to make it available for girls. The Chairman moved that the matter be referred to the Property Committee, with power to act. This was agreed to. Accounts.—Current accounts amounting to £313 Os 7d were submitted for payment. The Financial Committee recommended all the accounts for payment except the account for Bay of Islands coal, which was considered exorbitant. The accounts authorised were passed for payment.
