In the course of his speech the Governor congratulated the colony on the fact that the Government had had the foresight and persistence to pursue a course in connection with the ■ Chinese difficulty which had practically set the disturbing question at rest. He expressed • his belief ■ that the firm, selfreliant attitude of New South Wales would strengthen the ' hands ,of the Imperial Government in dealing with - the matter. The prospect of uniform legislation on the question, on the part of other colonies, was uncertain, notwithstanding the agreement come to by the recent Conference held in Sydney. r THE DIVORCE BILL. . . - » ''--." It was stated that the Government had appointed, as lecturer on the colony in England, an ; uncertificated bankrupt, upon whom the judge had passed severe strictures. TWO LABGE NUGGETS FOUND. Melbourne, July 24. Two large nuggets have just been found—one at Donnelly's Creek, North Gippsland, weighing 3860zs ; the other at Wedderburn, in the north-west of the colony, weighing 86oz. • FORGED BANK NOTES. ° Melbourne, July 24.
