• Punctually to her advertised time of sailing, the Union S.S. Co.'s Rotomahana took her departure for Southern ports and Melbourne . yesterday. She took a cargo of general merchandise and a good number of passengers. . In order -o be discharged with greater facility the barque Coulnakyle was yesterday towed alongside the Queen-street Wharf, ana the "hulk Senator, which is.to receive her copra, was moored < abreast of her. Under the direction of ; Mr. P. E. Compton a gang of men were busily engaged in transferring the cargo to the hulk. Owing to the troubles in connection with "trie discharge of the mail steamer Alameda at Sydney, on account of her. having a Chinese crew, , the vessel had to be docked "With her cargo aboard. The operation was performed without any ill effects to the steamer.

The only coasting entries yesterday were the Gannet, cutter, with a load of fascines from the Barrier, and the Fannie, with 31,000 feet of timber, from Whangapoua. _.It is expected that the repairs to - the ship Xillochan, which put in dismasted, to Melbourne, will occupy about five weeks. She .will then resume her voyage to this port. _From_ Greymouth ' the brigantine Sarah Pile arrived in port yesterday morning. She Airings a full cargo of coal. Captain Tippett reports that the brigantine left Greymouth on July 4th, and for the first two days experienced light easterly winds and calms. Cape J?oulwii»d was abeam at 10 p.m. on the 6tn, and shortly after a heavy westerly gale set m, accompanied by rain squalls. A south--west wind succeeded these, and Cape Maria van Diemen was sighted on the 9th: but, «wing to the wind veering to the north and •foiling light, was not rounded till next day. {The North Cape was passed at 4 p.m. ou the JOth, and Cape Brett at 8 the following morning, harbour being made as above. ' Yesterday morningthe Northern S.S. Co's. 3ona came in from Tauranea and Mercury Bay at an early hour, and after disembarking: her passengers, she left on her regular weekly trip to the Barrier. Yesterday evening the s.s. Wellington Arrived from Whangarei about 8 o'clock with 'good number of passengers, 'and a general cargo which included 150 sacks gum. In consequence of adverse weather, the Staffa was not expected to leave Opotiki until this evening. Her' departure for t that port has consequently been postponed till Saturday. f The Suva is valued at £5000, and insured I la various colonial offices for £3000. j

The Union Company's s.s. Wan aim 493 tons, Captain J Shepherd, from the South! arrived at 10.15 a.m. yesterday. She left Lyttelton at 9 p.m. on the 9th, arriving at Wellington at 3 p.m. on the 10th. . Left aeain same evening at 7.30 p.m., and arrived at ttaranaki at '2 p.m. on the 11th. Left Taranaki at 4.30 p.m. same day. Crossed Manukau bar at 8.45 a.m. on the 12th, and arrived as above. Experienced fresh head winds, with heavy head sea throughout the passage!
