THE COMING BOOM.
TO THE EDITOR. , . Sir,—The paragraph which you print this morning re the coming boom in Auckland by means of Melbourne capital is confirmatory of advices I have received, and it is argued out in this way. * There has been an immense influx of English capital in Melbourne, sent out there for investment. This has been offered at the low rates of four and four and a-half per cent, and the local (Melbourne) men find themselves squeezed out. It is a new sensation to them to think of lending money at four per cent., so they cast their eyes around for another sphere, and New Zealand properties being now so depressed, no better field appears open to them than to exploit New Zealand. We shall have shoals of tourists herein thousands—after they have "done" the Exhibition, and you may rest assured we have now reached the turning point in our period of gloom."—lam, etc., C. W.
