THAMES NEWS.

[from our own correspondent.]

Thames, Saturday. A fancy bazaar and gift entertainment was held at the Oddfellows' Hall last evening, under the auspices of Mrs. Hume, for the benefit of the Bath Chair Fund of the Thame? Hospital. It passed off very successfully, a total sum of £16 18s being realised, which, together with the sum of £30 10s, collected by Mrs. Hume, makes a total of £47 8s raised by that lady's efforts ; and this entirely frees from debt the two bath chairs r.ow in use in the above institution. In the course of the evening the Rev. F. G. Evans, in an appropriate address, alluded to the very generous and unselfish efforts Mrs. Hume has always put forth in aid of the sick and suffering, and in response to his request those present heartily joined in a vote of thanks to her. In addition to her efforts in helping to procure the chairs mentioned, Mrs. Hume recently presented the hospital with an ambulance carriage entirely at her own expense. At a " social" held by the Thames Fire Brigade in the Hibernian Hall last evening, Dr. Payne, who has been the honorary surgeon of the Brigade for the past 14 years, was presented by Superintendent West with one of the Association's long-service medals. A medal was also presented to Fireman Lynch, who has been a member for the past six years. Monday. At the meeting of the combined .school committees to-night, to consider proposed alteration re the school age, the following resolution was passed and ordered to be sent to the Board of Education, the Minister of Education, and to Messrs. Cadman and Eraser :— That this meeting deprecates any interference with the school age as by law established, or any curtailment of the rights of children to free education iu the higher standards."
