According to the Auburn Republican (California) Captain Moger had measured the famous fig tree on tho Rice place at Newcastle, and found that one foot from the ground its circumference was eight feet four inches. It has three branches which measure at five feet from the ground—one. 47 inches, one 41 inches, and the other 34 inches in circumference. Its branches cover about 2500 feob of surface. Two large orango trees on the s.imo place are '28 years old, measure atone foot from the ground 38 inches in circumference. Each orango tree is from 25 to "28 fcob high and well loaded with oranges.
