Messrs. Arthur and Buddle's Weekly Report.—Produce of all kinds has been in fair demand ; in some cases the supply has not been equal to the demand, and prices have advanced, but little left on hand. Potatoes haTe improved in price ; all on hand, both local and Southern, was cleared out at Friday's auction. Onions have not been brought forward in such large quantities; prices firmer; all cleared out. Pumpkins in smaller supply; all sold. Carrots, turnips, and mangolds are firmer; supply not so great; all cleared out. But few vegetables entered. Grain, chaff, bran, etc., quiet; stocks light. Cheese : All godd quality sold readily at fair prices; only a few inferior on hand. Butter : The supply of fresh was not at all equal to the demand; all to hand sold at Is Oid t</ Is 2Jd per lb.; no first-class salt butter entered, — called ''prime" by the makers was not up to the mark, and a lot sent in as "first-class" was not even medium quality. There is a demand for first-class ; medium moves off fairly well, but little demand for inferior. Bacon and hams : A very large quantity both local and South- • ern entered and solo.; a great deal of it was of inferior quality. Some of our local enrers do not get it thoroughly 3alted, and much of it is Very roughly Rot up; it i.» often reserved at a price far beyond the value. It is very unwise to put reserves on any kind of produce; as a rule it will bring its value, and generally sell best when first brought in. Honey: Very little brought forward. Poultry: There was a large supply of fowls; none brought particularly high prices, yet the average price was much better. But few ducks entered; these were not in good condition. No geese. Turkeys were in fair supply. No pigs entered ; many buyers ; there was great disappointment. Dead rabbits were brought forward in large quantity, and all sold well, bringing 6Jd each. Fruit: Local apples of very fine samples have come to hand from Kaipara, NVaikato, Papakura, and all have sold well. Those from the Woodstock orchard, Papakura, were a beautiful sample—large, even, bright, sound, and firm; the whole brought 3d to 3jd per pound. A convincing proof that if proper care was taken by all orchardists, New Zealand can supply her people with all the apples they require, of a far superior quality to those sent here from America or Hobart. Lemons : But few to hand; some very small ones, a fair demand. Hobart apples are of inferior quality; good prices have been obtained. Household furniture and requisites have not been in great demand. Only six sale* by auction this week ; they have al! been well attended. Two sales for drapery, clothing, &c, at the mart on Monday and Thursday. A fair amount of business was done at satisfactory prices. One sale of household furniture at the mart on Wednesday. Bidding was very languid ; prices ruled low. There was a sale of properties by order of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, which drew together a large number of persons, on Tuesday, after which there wero sold a quantity of flower bulbs, at fair prices. Two sales of poultry, produce, fruit, &c, on Tuesday and Friday. The market-day sale was very largely attended; brisk bidding, good prices, large business done.
