ANNIVERSARY OF THE JUBILEE KINDERGARTEN.
The first anniversary of the Jubilee Kindergarten was held at tho Schoolroom, Highstreet, yesterday evening, Amongst thoso present were Mrs. S. Percy Smith, vicepresident, Mosdames Dilworth and Baddeley, and other members of tho commit Rev. Dr. Kidd, Mr. G. B. Lilly, and others. The arrangements were carried out under the supervision of Mrs. Lilly, the indefatigable secretary of the institution. At half-past five p.m. about 150 children, with 40 of the mothers of thoso attending tho school, assembled, arid partook of tea. The children then took thei; - places on the duiij at the southern end of the building, aud sang a number of action songs. _ Dr. Kidd delivered an appropriate address to the children, and then spoke briefly to the mothers. He assured them that they were doing the best thing they could by sending their children to the Kindergarten, which he could term nothing else than ft God-sent institution. They must bear In mind that it was their duty to see that none of the lessons implanted in tho minds of tho children were destroyed by ev influence or bad example. Dr. Kidd strongly urged the p.rcnts not to let their children nee intoxicating liquors used in the house. It would be far better were strong drink banished altogether from the home, but if this was not done, they should take care that their children did not see them using it, for it was the cause of avil and ruin in many a family. Prizes for good attendance were presented to the older pupil* by Dr. Kidd, who also distributed gift* of lesser value to the younger children, and the National Anthem having been sung, the proceedings closed.
