WAIOEKA LICENSING COMMITTTEE.
The annual meeting of the above committee was held at Opotiki on Saturday, June 9. Present: Messrs. R. Wright (chairman), R. T. Abbot, Alfred Parkinson, W. Law, and Hira to Popo (native assessor). The following applications for a publican's license were received and considered : —Frederick J. Lightoller, for a lioense of the Masonic Hotel, Opotiki, was granted. Fee, £40. George Skipper, for a license for the Opotiki Hotel. Objections made by the police, and the consideration of the application was adjourned until after the despatch of the other business. Captain John Taw, license for the Royal Hotel. Granted. Fee, £40. Mr. E. Webb applied for an accommodation license for the Omaio Hotel, which was granted, and the fee reduced from £7 10s to £5. An application was received from Mr. W. H. Boy lan, of the Omarumatu Hotel, for an accommodation license, which was granted at £6. The application of Mr. Swiaton for a license for the Raukokore Hotel, Rankokore, was granted, the fee being reduced to £5. The _ application of Mr. James Walker for a lioense for the Te Kaha Hotel was granted, and the fee reduced to £5. Mr Skipper's application was then discussed at considerable length, and, finally! the license was granted, the chairman addressing the applicant at some length upon tin: necessity of his having a good report of r-hd conduct of his house at the next quarterly meeting.
