SPORTING.
NELSON STEEPLECHASE MEETING. [by TELEGRAPH.— association.] Nelson, Thursday. The weather was perfect for the Steeplechase Meeting to-day, but the attendance was nob very large, although the sport was excellent. Mr. Newman's Don won the Trial Steeplechase Handicap, Mr". D. Young's Prince second, Mr. P. Adams' Glencoe third. The Hurdle Handicap was won by Mr. F. Green's Dangerous, Mr. H. Sutherly's Oceola second, Mr. J. Sutherly's Myrtle third. This was a grand race, and was won by a neck. Dividend, £24 18s. Winter Oats: Mr. Warne's Sweetie, 1; Mr. W. R. Clarke's Pafcricius, 2; Mr. Warne's Regret, 3. The Nelson Steeplechase Handicap was won by Mr. H. Sutherly's Oceola, Mr. Newman's Don second, Mr. Alexander's Orient third. All the jumps were taken in fine style, and the race was exciting throughout. The Trotting Handicap in harness was won by Mr. T. Askew's Sydney, Mr. Harley's Antelope second, Mr. Canning's Marigold third.
