THE VACANT JUDGESHIP.

Ciiristchurch, Friday. In consequence of a statement in a telegram from Dunedin, published this morning, that the appointment of Mr. Justico Ward to the vacant judgeship would not be acceptable to the Bar or Bench, a meeting of the members of the legal profession in Ciiristchurch was held at the Supreme Court Library, at three p.m. to-day. Twenty-seven mombers wcro present. Apologies were received from several others, who wero unable to attend owing to the shortness of tho notice of the meeting. The following resolution was carried unanimously: — "That the members of tho legal profession present at this meeting have practised for some years before His Honor J ustico Ward, and aro of opinion that his permanent appointment as Supremo Court justice would be acceptable to the profession." It was decided to forward tno resolution to the Minister for Justice.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Sunday. Tho Times and Post aro still pegging away at tho proposed appointment to tho vacant Judgeship, and championing the claims of Judge Ward as against those of Mr. Haggitt.
