LUNATIC ASYLUM.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l do not think many of your readers are prepared to agree with your correspondent "F." relative to the Lunatic Asylum. I rather consider that the public are much indebted to Mr. Ewington, who has evidently the courage of his opinions, and will not be sat upon by Dr. Cremonini, who has roved himself well able to take care of imself and his reputation. "F." is evidently well inspired, but knowing the abuses that do creep into asylums, and the high-handed manner in which Dr. Cremonini has hitherto dealt with the officials and the visiting justices, I think the intelligent public are prepared to give Mr. Ewington credit for endeavouring to do his duty fearlessly. If he makes any erroneous statements, these will not injure Dr. Cremonine. There cannot be too much light on the management of the Lunatic Asylum. It is a long way from the town, out of the way for visitors, and the patients and their friends must necessarily rely on those who voluntarily undertake a very sad and unpleasant duty, more particularly when they aro energetic men, animated, as I believe Mr. Ewington is, by a kindly feeling towards their afflicted fellow-creatures. I for one thank him for the trouble he takes. —I am, &c, Colonist.
