At six o'clock yesterday morning the Union S.S. Co.'s Mararoa came in from Sydney with general cargo and a good number of passengers. To Mr. Nancarrow, the purser, we are indebted for prompt delivery of our files and the following report of the steamer's .passage The Mararoa left Sydney at midnight on the Bth instant, cleared Port Jackson Heads at 1 a.m. on the 9th, was abeam of the Three Kings at 10.50 a.m. on the 12th, rounded the North Cape at 2.15 p.m., and arrived as above, having experienced moderate northerly winds and fine weather throughout the passage. Among her passengers were a dozen Chinamen for Dunedin. The schooner Medora sailed yesterday for her usual round of ports— Awanui, Whangaroa, etc., with a full cargo of groceries, potatoes, ironmongery, and spirits. A fierce squall passed down the harbour from the westward yesterday about 1 o'clock, and it was so strong that several vessels lying in the stream dragged their anchors and drifted some distance fco leeward. The schooner Torea, the brig Wild Wave, and the brigantine Gazelle, which were riding at one anchor, drifted a couple of hundred yards, and a second kedge had to be put out to stop their involuntary

progress. Yesterday forenoon the Fijian steamer Wainui proceeded to the Sugar Works to discharge some raw sugar brought up from Suva. She came down the harbour about 3

o'clock, and sailed for Wellington with part of her original cargo and one through pas-

senger. s rom Mangonui the schooner Mariner got in yesterday with a cargo of 54,000 feet sawn timber. Captain Lewis, of the barque Frances Fisher, now lying at Newcastle, writes us that he spoke the Auckland schooner Ryno in 10(1 eg 20min S. 158deg W., all well. The Ryno was steering a northerly course, heading aijparently for Penrhyn. By Sydney files to hand per s.s. Mararoa we learn that the barque Berbice, whose wreck at Newcastle was reported in the Herald of the sth instant, has been sold by auction, when hull, gear, cargo, and stores were purchased for £306. It is expected that the vessel will shortly go to pieces. Bulk was broken in the barque Mercia yesterday morning, and the work of discharging commenced. So far the cargo has turned out in excellent condition. '

The barquentine Elinor Vernon has almost completed her loading of gum, and is expected to be a full «hip to-morrow. She will probably sail ou Saturday. Abont 9 o'clock yesterday morning tho brigantide Anthons, under charge of Captain Buike, came into harbour from Lyttelton, and worked up to the Queen-street Wharf, at which she was berthed about 11 o'clock. She brings a full cargo of wheat, and comes consigned to Mr. Malcolm Niccol. Of the trip the captain reports Left Lyttelton Heads 4th inst., with a southerly wind that carried the vessel to Cape Turnagain, off which we were on 6th inst.; becalmed all day, and the following morning the southerly breeze sprang up apin, taking her to the East Cape on the Bth ; from thence variable winds until arrival. Off Tiritiri at half-past six, and was berthed at the Queen-street Wharf as above. Experienced fine weather the whole passage. Our Thames correspondent states that owing to the lowness of the tide, the barque Killarney, with 280,000 feet kauri boards from the Thames River Sawmill, was unable to get away from the mill wharf yesterday morning; consequently her departure for _ Melbourne is delayed.

The signal station gave notice of the approach of a schfloner yesterday afternoon, ana about dusk the well-known barquentine Jessie, with a cargo of coal from Newcastle, under charge of Captain Reid, came into port, and cast anchor off the Hobson-street Wharf at 7.30 p.m. She left Newcastle on May 27, and had light southerly winds till Juno 4, when a strong easterly gale was experienced, which lasted for a week. It was succeeded by E.N.E. winds till the North Cape was passed, on the 12th. Down the coast fresh N.N.W. winds prevailed, and Tiri was passed at 3 p.m. yesterday, and the harbour made as stated above.
