[press association.] . Wellington, Monday. In the case Sargood v. Dunedin Corporation the appeal was dismissed with costs. Hokitika, Monday. By a fire at Rimu this morning, the store and dwelling of Mr. Perry were destroyed. Insurances : Building, £200; furniture, £50; stock, £250; all in the Norwich Union. A portion of the stock was removed. The dredging plant at Five-mile and Three-mile beaches has been safely landed. The Kennedy has nob yet been got off the gravel bank at the mouth of the river. Donedin, Monday. Robert Hagon, bootmaker, Maitlandstreet, committed suicide early this morning by cutting his throat. Invercargill, Monday. At a meeting to-night the Fire Brigade Demonstration Committee resolved to ask the members for the town and district to use their influence to have the Government grant of £250 to the United Fire Brigades continued. . •, ' . A meeting of dairy factory representatives, on Saturday, resolved to ask the Government to delay the proposed appointment of Mr. , McCallum as Government Dairy Factory Instructor, and to furnish particulars as to : the precise nature of the appointment. Another meeting is to be held shortly, when the matter will be fully discussed.
