Lord Knutsford definitely declines to give his assent to the Victorian Marine till, as France protests against the clauses affecting foreign shipping. Lordt Knutsford suggests that the present Bill should be withdrawn, and a fresh Bill introduced omitting the objectionable clause, when the Queen's assent would be given. Sir Graham Berry is urging for the Queen's assent to the present Bill, conditionally on Mr. Gillies, the Premier of Victoria, pledging himself to pass an amending Bili promptly. ■ REFORM OF THE HOUSE OF t LORDS. London, June 7. The motion of the Earl of Cadogan provides for the creating of life peers, and expelling black sheep from the House, and enabling peers to divest themselves of the right to a seat. On the motion of the Earl of Cadogan a committee has been appointed to report on what reforms could be effected in the House of Lords.

London, June 7. The chairman of the P. and O. Company states that the company has sustained losses in traffic outside the Australian trade.
